Fulcrum Aid will partner with Bangladesh Youth First Concern in providing a program that caters for the physical, social and psychological needs of isolated children infected with HIV.

The prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh remains low, and the Government, in conjunction with UNAIDS and the World Health Organisation, has established policies and strategies to address HIV/AIDS treatment, testing, prevention and education. However, with a population of 160 million, and 43% living below $1.25 per day, Bangladesh is under-resourced in its fight against AIDS.

Children affected by HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh face the additional risk of being socially isolated due to the stigma associated with the virus. Without access to antiretroviral therapy, or programs to provide for their care, many HIV positive children are extremely vulnerable and face a bleak future.

Bangladesh Youth First Concern is an organisation that focuses on the rehabilitation and development of at-risk youth. National Director Dr Peter Halder says "We have many HIV infected children in Bangladesh, and many of them have no-one to care for them. We have a vision to provide a children's home where they can receive the best medical treatment, and most importantly a home where they are loved."

Fulcrum Aid will support Bangladesh Youth First Concern to provide holistic care to children who are infected with HIV and who face the added vulnerability of not having relatives to provide for them.
