Breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality in remote regions of Papua New Guinea.
Fulcrum Aid will work with Women in Development Foundation PNG to provide rural communities in Papua New Guinea with opportunities for education, health care, agriculture and nutrition.
With over 800 language groups, Papua New Guinea is one of the world's most culturally diverse nations. The discovery of natural resources has brought little change to the 80% of the population who live in rural regions, many of whom continue to live without access to education, health care and other social services.
While very proud of their independence and cultural preservation, the lack of development also results in the continuation of extreme poverty, poor health standards, and culturally entrenched gender inequalities.
Fulcrum Aid’s “Soil Child” project invests in social capital - Ie the resources of the community - to provide education, primary health care, nutrition, agriculture and vocational opportunities. An emphasis on leadership and management by women ensures better outcomes for future generations.
An extensive process of community dialogue ensures that the initiative and responsibility for social change is shared by village members.
